Tending Our Practice
Just 10 years ago, we were still trying to define the term "information architecture." As we continued to shape the practice, we passionately defended its necessity, and celebrated any sign that it was taking hold in the industry.
Now, through the work of a driven community of brilliant practitioners, information architecture has become a firmly rooted practice that continues to flourish and evolve.
Take a look back at how we got here:
- 2009: Expanding our Horizons (Memphis, Tennessee) Celebrating and reflecting in our 10th year
- 2008: Experiencing Information (Miami, Florida) What dimensions of information do users typically experience while “doing things”, and how can we design information environments that best support these users and activities?
- 2007: Enriching IA (Las Vegas, Nevada) – Rich information, rich interaction, rich relationships
- 2006: Learning, Doing, Selling (Vancouver, Canada) – Learning all aspects of information architecture by discussing theory and practice, sharing how we do it and how to sell it internally and externally.
- 2005: Crossing Boundaries (Montreal, Canada) – Energizing connections across geographic, academic, and cross-disciplinary boundaries in order to drive best practices and innovation in all of our IA endeavors.
- 2004: Breaking New Ground (Austin, Texas) – Strengthening the foundation of the discipline and widening the scope of IA practice.
- 2003: Making Connections (Portland, Oregon) – Finding ways to make connections between fields within the umbrella of information architecture.
- 2002: Refining our craft (Baltimore, Maryland) – Meeting, discussing and sharing with other IAs our experiences.
- 2001: Practicing Information Architecture (San Francisco, California) – A conference devoted to how we actually do IA.
- 2000: Defining Information Architecture (Boston, Massachusetts) – What is IA?
