Toss Out that Old Stakeholder Review Process! : Replace your Traditional Review Process with a User Centered Review Process

In many organizations, large Web design projects require stakeholder approval from cross-departmental committees. These committees are typically comprised of marketing directors and managers across the organization, and teams often spend massive amounts of time struggling to gain consensus to determine design directions. As is common when committees drive design, this creates a frustrating environment, filled with unhappy compromises that fail to meet users’ needs. However, in this presentation, User Experience Researchers and Designers will learn how to revolutionize the traditional design review process, by grounding projects in user-feedback.

Based on our experience with the redesign of the GoToMeeting Web site, Jill will share a case study of how Citrix Online grounded the project in user feedback and made the users the ultimate stakeholders. As a session attendee, you will take away strategies for replacing traditional stakeholder review with a user centered review process, using the following tactics:

* Gathering business goals upfront from key decision makers
* Actively engaging decision makers in user research, by having everyone watch usability testing
* Using fast iterative design cycles to test out different design solutions to usability problems

This presentation will not simply be a case study of the GoToMeeting Web site redesign, but will also focus on strategies to successfully move cross-departmental projects forward by grounding the project in user feedback.
